About

What is a “Fit Life”?

Fit Life might at first sound like it’s a life about fitness, but truthfully it’s about so much more.

To me, living a Fit Life is livinga decided, on purpose life. It is being “FIT” in my physical body as well as mymind and emotions.

Living a Fit Life means that I am FIT and ready to respond to life as it happens.

If you imagine an Olympic athlete, you might think of their sculpted body, and their inhuman performance. But what we don’t see is the hours and hours of blood sweat and tears that went into preparing for that one minute of fame.

The idea of being FIT is truly just being prepared, ready, strong, healthy, equipped to SHOW UP in life.

As busy working moms, it is IMPERATIVE that we are FIT in life.

Fit emotionally so we don’t lose our cool with our kids.

Fit physically so we don’t collapse on the couch after work every day.

Fit mentally so we don’t fall into patterns of anxiety and stress every day…

It seems pretty basic, and easy to brush off, but what occurred to me one day, is that most of us are keen on SAYING what we want in life, but never fully DECIDING to pursue it.

We want to lose weight, get a better job, get healthy, live a fit lifestyle, be a better wife a better mom, etc. etc. etc…

But we rarely seek out those things with resolve.

OR, we “decide” to pursue it, but not with any strength of conviction. We decide to pursue it for the length of a detox, or a challenge, or a specific amount of time.

We don’t look at it as an arrival, we just look at it like a quick fix for a longstanding problem.

We can agree this is true, just by taking a moment to consider the amount of times people around you, maybe yourself included, have “tried” and “failed” to lose weight and keep it off.  Or how many times we have “tried” and “failed” to be consistent at anything…budgeting, reducing spending, more quality time with family, waking up earlier, starting a business… the list goes on.

WHY?!

I WAS THAT PERSON. I was and excellent starter but a terrible finisher. I never pursued anything in life with a decided heart.

And this was SO disturbing to me to confront, and it caused me to take a deeper look into my own self. I didn’t want to be like the majority, who said one thing and didn’t follow through, and history had shown I was no different. I had to find out what was different.

Here’s what I discovered: I lacked the correct mindset and belief to accomplish what I desired.  I was afraid.

It was easy and fun to talk about all the things I wanted.  I talked about what my body would look like, what my lifestyle would be like, how I would work out all the time and prep my food for the week. I would be a writer, a speaker and influence many lives with a transparent and personal message of hope.

But I was SO SCARED.

We stay on the bank of the river, on the opposite side of our dreams because we can see them, we can taste them and we can feel them… but we cannot LIVE them until we jump in and swim across. Head under. All in.

And the thing is, we don’t know if we can make it. There are simply NO guarantees. It’s a risk and it’s a chance. Maybe we’ll struggle to catch our breath and finally have to grab onto a rock hang out for dear life and then jump in again. We may get tossed and turned, thrown around, beaten and bruised. There may be people laughing, jeering, making fun of you, or your loved ones begging you to just come back to the safe side, where it’s calm and secure and it’s what they and you have always known.

It was so much easier before!

So what does it take to get to the other side?! Who makes it? The one who has chosen to live with Resolve, and is ready to embrace THE PROCESS that’s who.

The one who is DECIDED to get there. Despite the rapids, the jeering comments, the nasty words, the sharp rocky edges. The one who has resolved to make it will make it, because they WILL NOT QUIT. They will fail, they will hurt, they will cry and they will THINK about giving up, but they never will because they have RESOLVED to make it to the other side.

They are resolved to put one foot in front of the other, take it one step at a time, and consider every small win, every time they got back up on their feet, a victory, because they’re still in the game- EVERY DAY (The PROCESS!)

EVERYONE wants to be a better wife/husband.
EVERYONE wants to be a better parent.
EVERYONE wants to be a better friend.
EVERYONE wants to be more confident.
EVERYONE wants to be fitter.
EVERYONE wants to be healthy and live a long life.
EVERYONE wants to live a FIT lifestyle.
EVERYONE wants to pursue their dreams.
EVERYONE wants to live to their fullest potential.

So…What makes YOU different?! Why will YOU succeed when most others will fail?

This should do two things to you. It may first frustrate or discourage you like it did to me, until you realize that you are sitting in the power seat.

And that’s the second thing it does, it EMPOWERS YOU to realize that YOU are the one who gets to decide, or better, RESOLVE, to become who you have always wanted to be.

And THAT, my friend, is a Fit Life.

You have full control to commit yourself to your goals, within the lines of what you are willing or not willing to do.

Your actions need to match your goals, so you can move forward with realistic expectations. A decided person is willing to take it day-by-day, habit by habit, and celebrate the small things along the way to the end goal.

It is important to note that “A Fit Life” is FAR from “the Perfect Life”.

FIT only means that despite failure, despite mistakes, despite circumstances and LIFE, you are decided to move forward no matter what. Not perfectly, and not on the straight and narrow, just with heart and conviction and willingness to learn and grow. I think that’s the best part!

“I’ve learned far more by struggling than I have by succeeding. Be decided to embrace the process.”

There is both POWER and FRUSTRATION in the realization that it is entirely up to you.

Once you know that, you can no longer play the victim, or depend on ANYONE else to get you there.

So now you have to make a choice- will you decide to move forward and take charge of your life, or not?

If you quit or fail, it’s on you. If you succeed, it’s on you. Is it worth the risk to you?

AND how does fitness connect to all of this?!

Fitness is simply one TOOL in your toolbox that will help you to live a FIT life.

Improving your overall fitness and health with exercise and nutrition will add to your confidence, energy, mindset and belief system.

In fitness you get to test your limits and realize what you’re capable of that you may never have tried without someone adding belief to your life, and THAT carries over greatly to your life outside of fitness.

SO! Can I count you in to live a Fit Life with me?! An imperfect life, determined to move forwards and pick ourselves back up a hundred times…or more? A life that at the end we will know we gave it ALL and not just some.
